Frequently asked questions

What does the review process involve?

Usually this involves a half-day site visit to meet with key risk management stakeholders within the operational environment.  It also involves providing data for review, including policies and procedural documents, samples of incident data and telematics data (if applicable), and training resources used for onboarding or refresher training.  In some cases it will be necessary to speak to some active drivers either during the site visit or by phone or video call at a later date.

What kind of feedback is produced from the review?

A report is produced for each review which reports the findings in a number of key areas, typically:
- Current onboarding processes
- Policies and procedural documentation
- Nature of journeys
- Incident management processes
- Driver monitoring and proactive intervention
- Safety culture
- Key operational risk factors

The report concludes with a set of red/amber/green ratings for key risk areas and some recommendations for actions that would improve the profile and reduce fleet risk.

Do you provide customised solutions for different organisations?

Yes, whilst the review takes a fairly standardised format, within that it is always adapted in real-time to reflect the nature of the fleet.  As the review gets underway and we start to understand the specific operational demands, contexts and processes it allows us to adapt the review to reflect the specifics of the individual fleet.

Telematics consultancy varies significantly depending on where people are in their journey, which can be anywhere from not having started looking at providers to having a fully embedded system.  We set out to ensure that whichever provider is used, the system is calibrated appropriately for the fleet, the people managing the data understand what it is telling them, and the drivers are able to benefit from the data to the fullest extent possible.

The behavioural risk reduction package is fully customised, usually based on the outcomes of the review.

What sets your services apart from others in the industry?

We have over 20 years' experience in using human factors to target the key element of road risk - driver behaviour.

The vast majority of incidents are not the product of skills deficits, technological issues or vehicle defects, instead they are the result of drivers making bad decisions.  Our expertise is in identifying the factors that are contributing to those bad decisions, and helping organisations understand the adjustments that they can make to reduce their frequency.  Often this is based on strategies to support drivers in understanding how their risky decisions are triggered, which allows them to increase their self-awareness and make safer decisions at critical moments.  It also often involves making subtle organisational changes to reduce the perceived pressure on drivers to make unsafe decisions and reinforce the message that safety is a key priority for the fleet.
